We are participating in the Mongol Rally this summer and are just deciding to go for the Pamir Highway. Your experience definitely sounds like what I am expecting. Do you have any recommendations on tools to bring for the car?

Hey Brigitte! You should definitely do the Pamir Highway, it's rough but was one of our coolest experiences during the rally. We recommend to bring at least the basic tools like screwdrivers, spanners, drive socket set, bottle jack etc. We haven't had a flat tire during the whole rally but it's best to bring a spare one. Duct tape (or gorilla tape) and plastic straps were also essentials for us! And big pro tip: buy some tennis balls, and once in Iran/Turkmenistan jack the car up and knock +- 4 balls between each suspension spring. This will save your suspension from breaking down and you'll drive much smoother over all the pot holes. Try to only take the essentials. Every kilogram counts and this will save you on fuel and you'll feel the difference on the rough roads. Good luck and enjoy every minute of it :D
